Water damage may be categorized in three broad classes, but the truth is that there effect is applicable every where and not just a particular section. It is very wrong to think that the problems faced due to water damage in a factory cannot occur in our homes. Their degree or nature of the water damage may not be high in the proportion of that of a factory, but nevertheless these do occur.

The basic problem that a person faces in a regular household is that of the sink overflowing due to problem in the water passage. Something that has got stuck within the pipeline prevents the free flow of water. At times like hurrying to leave for an appointment these things could become really annoying. For such reasons we should always take note of what we are dumping in the sink.

Then there are pipelines, which may be damaged due to corrosion or some external tampering. What ever be the reason at times they tend to show leaks or cracks, which if they are not catered to immediately may open up due to the force of the water flowing through them. If a pipeline connecting the requisite lines of the household ruptures, then people are quite irritated.

Even during the rainy seasons there is a tendency of the basements to get flooded with water. This form of water damage is a serious concern, as it may brew various bacteria and germs that might pollute the environment of the house. Thus, it should be got rid off as soon as possible with the help of the sump pumps.

For people, who have water heaters or dish washers, washing machines at home it is advisable to keep them down in the basement to prevent water damage. The only reason behind this is that the little amount of leakage from these equipments may spill on the floor and damage its polish. If they are kept downstairs at the basement then even if there is leakage, it would flow out into the sewers.

Furthermore, keeping wet utensils or objects on wooden floor or surface may be very damaging for the material. It seems to mar the polish as well as seeps through the gaps between woods, which could be pretty bad in the long run. The water seeping through the pores may give rise to fungi within the cracks, which in turn would start corroding or rotting the inside of the material like termites. We would not know of the harm till the very end when it is clearly visible from the outside too.

The major set back to our homes is given by the water damage caused by Mother Nature in the form of floods and hurricanes. In such cases many of the homes are torn apart and a few that survive are not in a position to be inhabited by any person. Though we are helpless in such conditions we still hope for the best and remain prepared for circumstances that would pop up from such situations.
