We have known water over the years as provider of life as well as taker, during the times of natural calamities. Various ancient civilizations have been swiped away by the wrath of water damage in the due course of time. We cannot stand up against such brutal force and give up in the long run, but at least we can try and prevent the damage to cause us lesser harm. There are various methods by which we could consider to keep water damage at bay or in the least minimize the damage.

Especially with our homes we must be very careful to keep track of water seepage through cracks in the floor, furniture or walls. The seepage of water is a gradual but degrading process, as it causes water damage to the entire material from the inside. Seepage of water, leads to the growth of fungi, in the cracked regions of the materials, which in the future show signs of water damage in dreadful conditions. In cases of laminated floors if any water is spilled then it should be dried of immediately with the help of a dry cloth, so that it does not stain the luster of the floor.

In the rainy seasons people having basements must be careful to keep their sump-pump ready at hand. If by any chance there is water logging due to heavy downpour and the basement gets flooded, you would not want the water to remain their brewing harmful microorganisms causing water damage through unhygienic conditions to live in. The sump-pump comes really handy at times like these to pump out the water out o the basement in no time. However, if the pump was not properly maintained then at its time of need it may not function properly, causing lot of trouble. Even more if there is a power outage during the storm the sump-pump would not work and people should have alternative methods to get rid of the stagnant water as soon as possible.

On several occasions people need to pay attention to the dish washers or the water heaters present at home. They may leak on a number of times spilling water over the floor and damaging it. In such cases the heaters need to be kept in the lower levels of the house preferably the basement, as the water would then go directly to the sewers. On handling dish washers attention should be paid to the hoses and pipes to see if there is any leakage. Furthermore, they must be serviced frequently to check if there is any damage within that could lead to leakage in the future.

Even in the severe conditions people should have their pipelines checked to see if there is any crack or leak or signs of water damage. If the water gets frozen during the winter months it would simply break open the pipelines through the minute cracks and leakage holes, leaving the pipes useless. Thus, every body should take careful measures to prevent water damage from occurring, than wait to see the damage occur and then device solutions to cope with it.
