Is International Moving A Good Idea?

This is a question that many are asking these days when the subject of international moving comes up. Opponents to the idea will point at the instability of regions like the Middle East and Southeast Asia while proponents will point out that the cultural and educational experience you get from international moving far outweighs the risk. Both are valid points so the answer to this question is not a simple one for anyone.

As far as instability goes, in the interest of focusing on the positive, there are very few regions in the world today that would accurately fit the description of unstable. There are currently wars going on and certain Asian countries are not very good at protecting their native citizens, never mind foreigners coming in with international moving companies in tow, but these conflicts and oversights are well documented and are happening in countries that are not premier choices for international moving.

On the other hand, conflicts in the Middle East and the new governments that have come to power as a result of them have created new jobs that are attracting contractors and professionals from other countries. This has brought about a new surge in international moving that is going in both directions. Contract employment is usually long term but not permanent so international moving companies are being hired to move people in and then out again when the job is done.

In the stable regions of the world international moving is alive and well. Europe, since the formation of the European Union in 2002, has become a wide open land of opportunity for new businesses and technology. Satellite offices for U.S. and Asian corporations are springing up all over Europe and the corporate relocation experts have been busy hiring international moving companies to handle the movement of employees.

The world has become a smaller place and employment opportunities don't always come from inside the borders of your own country. United States citizens are moving to other nations regularly to handle their company interests abroad. Europeans, Asians, Africans, and Australians are changing countries and continents daily for professional or personal reasons. With the development of faster transportation, better technology and tighter security at airports it has become easier and safer to move from one country to another.

So what is the answer to the question? International moving is a good idea if you're moving for the right reasons to a country where there is an opportunity for you. If your only reason for not moving is fear of the unknown or you feel that it's too dangerous then you shouldn't be considering international moving in the first place. Your new country will offer new customs, possibly a different language and experiences that you will remember for a lifetime. These are all positive and can be a little frightening if you've never traveled abroad before. Is international moving a good idea? Yes, it is. If you have the motivation and the nerve to do it, then by all means do it.
