Changing Trends In Today's Baby Wear

Well, winter is well and truly upon us and once again, we have nothing in the wardrobe that fits. The little gremlins that live it the back of the wardrobe all year round have been at their business again. They've taken all we had to wear last winter and shrunk it all. This is across the board, for us, for our children and for our babies.

Baby wear is, of course, something we expect to replace every season. Indeed, in my children's case, it felt like once a fortnight they needed new, bigger clothes! Also, things are different to how they used to be.

In days gone by, one set of clothes would be handed down to all children and continually around the family until they were completely threadbare. However, these days, children are much more fashion conscious, as are parents and many want their baby wear and children's clothes to consist of new items in the latest trends.

Fashion items are now available from baby size upwards. It makes no odds that generally a baby would be more comfortable in a cotton romper suit. If the parents prefer to put them in denim jacket and jeans, then that's the way it goes!

In my grandmothers time, much of the baby wear would have been home made from wool, by the families whilst the baby was being 'grown'. Then, when I was a baby, it consisted of just as much hand knitted clothing but with a few specialist items thrown in for convenience.

Even when I had my children, with only nine years between the eldest and youngest, ideas changed along the way. With the eldest, a daughter, baby wear was in the form of pretty dresses, romper suits and more traditional baby wear. By the time I had my last, it was jeans and disposable nappies.

Baby wear really is the domain of the parents as anything is available nowadays. You can still buy the cotton romper suits and these are favoured by most parents as sleep suits. There is also no shame in still getting family and friends to knit one, pearl one for your impending arrival. At the same time, if fashion is what you like, then there is no harm in dressing your baby this way.

Just ensure they do not become fashion victims and think they're whole persona is tied into what they wear and how they look as this will have an impact later in life and you will be making a rod for your own back, resulting in a demanding teenager that has to have all the latest styles a the highest prices or their lives are completely ruined!

At the end of the day, ensuring your baby is warm and well cared for is of more importance than how you dress them. There is certainly no shame in purchasing baby wear that might draw some attention, at the very least some smiles, from visitors.

Slogan baby wear has become quite fashionable and shows the parents sense of humour. These usually take the form of light hearted jibes at typical baby life eg, nappy changes, feeding, tantrums etc. This is all just a little light hearted fun and is at the discretion of the parents.
