3 Tips to Defining Your Target Audience
Half your job is complete if you are good at generating leads. As you know, without leads you have no business. That's the reality and importance of lead generation, with mastering the low cost lead being the golden ring.
The growth of a business depends upon generating prospects, which require specific efforts that are continuously made to generate not just any lead, but quality leads.
Generating Leads via Target Market
When your focus is on generating quality leads, the actual purpose is to create curiosity and interest among those who constitute your target market so they will make an inquiry for additional information. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Address the Right People to Generate Quality Leads
You must be sure that you are addressing your target market and not wasting resources (money) or buying millions of useless contacts (and later wasting time in deleting them). Also, those of you who are marketing on Web 2.0 social sites, even though they are free, are wasting your time if not focusing on a target group. So begin by defining who your target audience is.
First list their general "attributes" such as educators, professionals, college students, baby boomers, etc. ....you get the idea.
Second get more specific in defining "segments" of your market such as geographic locations, income levels, age groups, their current hobbies and/or professions. This list can get as detailed as you'd like.
Now determine how to FIND your target audience. Think about where those identified on your earlier lists "hang out". Write down those websites, blogs, MySpace "groups", what magazine and newsletters do they read? Think about Direct Mail lists and tailor mailings to your identified group. Once your target group is determined, you will be able to "talk to your audience".
Communicate Correctly to Generate Quality Leads
Communicating the value of your product or service to the prospects properly will help to generate quality leads. If your prospective customer is unable to understand what you trying to say, you may not be "speaking to the right audience", and your efforts will go unnoticed. In that case, re-evaluate how and what you are communicating.
Maintaining Momentum
Once your lead "pipeline" is full, keep testing and tracking to determine what is working best for you – then do MORE OF IT! Don't turn complacent, and remember to maintain the communication line so that you forge strong ongoing relationships. There is an old saying that "the fortune is in the follow up", and it is so true.
